Chickling vetch is a cool-season annual legume that can be planted in early spring or in late summer as a source of nitrogen or forage. It is a highly palatable as either pasture or hay, and can be hayed or pastured about 60 days ater planting. Chickling vetch can also produce respectable amounts of nitrogen. Optimum planting depth is 1.5 inches. Seeding dates are typically eiher March or August, with a pure stand rate of 30-50 pounds per acre. It is often planted in combination with oats, peas, radishes, and other cool-season annual forages.
