Sugar Beets

Beta Vulgaris
Sugar Beets (Beta vulgaris) is a biennial forb native to southwestern US states (such as California and Texas) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive crop that can thrive in USDA Zones 2–11 as an agricultural crop. Reaching a mature height of 1–2 feet in its vegetative stage with a rosette-forming growth habit, it features large, glossy green, wavy-edged leaves arising from a large, swollen white taproot. It thrives in deep, fertile, well-drained soils in full sun and is ideal for commercial sugar production, agricultural crop rotation, and livestock feed supplement.
