Pubescent Wheatgrass

Pubescent Wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium subsp. barbulatum) is a perennial grass native to Eurasia and has been successfully introduced to North America (grown across western states like Idaho, Wyoming, and Oregon) as a non-invasive plant that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–8. Reaching a mature height of 2–4 feet with a spreading sod-forming growth habit, it features hairy, blue-green leaves and produces stiff seed spikes. It thrives in drought-prone, poor-fertility soils and rocky slopes and is ideal for large-scale erosion control, dryland pasture grazing, and revegetation of disturbed industrial or roadside sites.
