Prairie Sand Reed

Calamotivita longifolia
Prairie Sand Reed (Calamovilfa longifolia) is a perennial grass native to Great Plains states (such as Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Colorado) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–8. Reaching a mature height of 3–6 feet with an upright, strongly rhizomatous spreading growth habit, it features coarse, light green leaves and produces open, feathery pale-green to yellowish seed panicles. It thrives in sandy soils, sand dunes, and dry prairies and is ideal for sand dune stabilization, erosion control, and critical area plantings.
