Prairie Dock

Prairie Dock (Silphium terebinthinaceum) is a perennial forb native to Midwestern US states (such as Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Missouri) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–8. Reaching a mature height of 4–10 feet with a basal rosette growth habit topped by leafless flower stalks, it features massive, coarse, heart-shaped green leaves and produces bright yellow flower heads. It thrives in deep, moist to dry prairie soils and is ideal for tallgrass prairie conservation, carbon sequestration, and soil stabilization.
