Deer Tongue Grass

Panicum clanestinum
Deertongue Grass (Dicanthelium clandestinum) is a perennial grass native to Eastern and Central US states (such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–9. Reaching a mature height of 1–3 feet with an upright clumping growth habit, it features broad, stem-clasping, deer-tongue-shaped green leaves and produces compact terminal seed panicles. It thrives in moist, acidic, or low-fertility soils and disturbed sites and is ideal for mine land reclamation, acid soil stabilization, and wildlife cover.
