Compass Plant

Silphium laciniatum

Compass Plant (Silphium laciniatum) is a perennial forb native to Central US states (such as Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Oklahoma) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–9. Reaching a mature height of 6–10 feet with a tall, deep-rooted upright growth habit, it features large, deeply lobed green leaves oriented north-to-south and produces large yellow sunflower-like flower heads along upper stems. It thrives in deep prairie soils and pastures and is ideal for tallgrass prairie restoration, carbon sequestration, and native wildlife cover.
