Beebalm, Plains

Plains Beebalm (Monarda citriodora) is an annual forb native to Southern and Central US states (such as Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and New Mexico) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–10 as a self-seeding annual. Reaching a mature height of 1–2 feet with an upright branching growth habit, it features lemon-scented green leaves and produces stacked whorls of pink, purple, or white flowers supported by leaf-like bracts. It thrives in dry, sandy, or rocky prairies and open fields and is ideal for dryland habitat restoration, utility corridor plantings, and pollinator support.
